Valarie Pettiford was born on July 08, 1960 to Ralph and Blanch Pettiford when they were living in Queens, New York. She finished her high school education in the public High School of Performing Arts in 1978. That same year she had her first job in the film industry, appearing in a movie called The Wiz as a chorus member.
Valarie Pettiford started her career on Broadway as a dancer and choreographer in Bob Fosse’s musicals. Alvin Klein, an acclaimed critic at a time wrote very positively about her role in the 1983 musical revue Ladies and Gentlemen, Jerome Kern!
