How Did Sekyiwa Shakur Become Rich?
Sekyiwa Shakur inherits a tragic but hefty fortune from her brother Tupac Shakur – AKA 2 Pac – who was a hip-hop star, songwriter, poet, dancer, actor, activist, and was once labeled as “one of the top rappers of all time”. Tupac had made his fortune from his widely popular rap songs addressing social issues – like 2Pacalypse Now, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z, and Me Against the World. Shakur is considered one of the best-selling music artists of all time with his 75 million albums sold throughout the world. From his music artistry, Tupac had accumulated a hefty net worth of $40 million.
He was shot four times in September 1996 in a drive-by in Los Angeles instantly after the release of his notoriously famous album All Eyez on Me. The murderer was never captured and he died six days after the tragic incident. However, the notorious B.I.G was suspected as a murderer of Shakur, but he was also shot dead after six months.
After the early death of Tupac, his mother Afeni Shakur inherited his estate. But soon after, she died after going into a cardiac arrest in her house in 2016. The inheritance then moved down to Sekyiwa Shakur.
What Is Sekyiwa Shakur Net Worth?
As mentioned earlier, Sekyiwa is not a self-made millionaire. Rather she – as the only living heir to Tupac’s estate – inherits the estate of her brother Tupac Shakur who was killed in a furious duel. Hailing from the black community, Tupac was a keen observer of racial injustice and suppression throughout the United States. He then decided to bring this racial discrimination into the hip-hop music industry and wrote multiple albums. Me Against the World (1995) is termed as his masterpiece. Only in the first week 240,000 copies of the album were sold, which was the highest record of the first-week sales in the history of solo rappers. This was the era when he hit the apex of his fame and wealth.
This was followed by his upcoming super hit albums. Amidst his career bloom, he met an unfortunate tragic death when he was shot four times in a drive-by in Los Angeles by an unidentified gunman. He passed away six days after.
The estate of Tupac then moved down to his sister – from another mother – Sekyiwa Shakur. It is pertinent to mention that the estate of Tupac doubled after his death. That is, more of his solo albums were sold throughout the United States, which ultimately added up to Sekyiwa Shakur’s net worth. As of 2023, Sekyiwa Shakur has an estimated net worth of $40 million. She runs the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation which was initiated by her brother to address the social, racial and mental health issues.
How Sekyiwa Shakur Spends Her Money?
Sekyiwa Shakur lives a simple, yet purposeful life, walking in the footprints of her brother. She lives in Sausalito California with her husband Gregory – where her mother Afeni Shakur died of a heart attack. She aims at fulfilling the left dreams of her brother: helping the marginalized communities, coping with racial issues, gender suppressions, and raising mental health awareness. She is often caught on camera driving the black BMW of her brother 2Pac.
